Dona Nobis Pacem by Benjamin Rota for viola
Collection Frédéric Lainé
Grade : advanced
Young violists National Competition, Perpignan (France) 2012
Dona nobis pacem is literally translated as 'Give us peace', a text from the Latin Mass.
Dona nobis pacem is a work in which tango rhythms are blended with irregular bars that mark a friendship between two people. Mixed with desire, admiration and jealousy, this friendship evolves and goes through moments of great tension to end up in a serenity and confidence that comes with time.
Time gives things relief and consistency. This work for solo viola reflects a thought that evolves, annoys, impassions, makes happy or sad, in the final analysis referring to what Man can do best in him: have faith in what he does and in who he is.
