Pad pin

This tool is used by repairmen to extract inside air from pads when placing them on a key.

Bladders is hermetically glued on a piece of paper.  When sticking the pad with warm glue, you have to warm up the receiver of the key to melt the glue et fit the pad.  During that operation the temperature of the pad will raise and the inside air volume will also raise, making un bump or even a crack in the pad !  With this tool a small hole can be made on the side to let the air go out.

This pin can also be used for placing pads if the key is not removed from the instrument.  Same thing with water key pads (for trumpet, trombone, …), saxophone felt parts, …
