Complete works for pîano four hands book 2 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Grosse fugue op.134
Edited from the autographs and first editions by Karl Heinz Füssl
Fingering by Hans Kann
The "Grosse Fugue" was the sixth movement of the string quartet op.130 (completed in 1825 and first performed on 21 March 1826). On the insistence of his publisher, Beethoven replaced the outsize finale with a closing movement of far less weight, composed in 1826. The original finale, the fugue, was published in the following year as a separate work with the opus number 133, together with a piano reduction for four hands (in which the publisher has shown great interest) prepared by Beethoven himself; this was given the opus number 134.
