The First Part of his "Clavier-Übung" - the six Partitas - Bach had printed as a whole in 1731 having originally published them singly one after the other since 1726.
He then published the second Part without date (but manifestly in 1735).
Bach thereby transferred to the clavier one example each of the two main forms of the Italian and Franch orchestral music of that day. In the Concerto he combines a full and almost orchestral sound with a delicate solo treatment in the Italian manner of his time and characterized in the notation by the dynamic markings "forte" and "piano". In the Overture, which in several sections also employs this contrast, the festive introductory movement (the overture proper) is followed by some French dance movements and an especially charming.
